the premier academic platform for sharing advances in the study of monocot plant systematics and evolution.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MONOCOTS, which is traditionally held every five years, has established itself as one of the most important meetings in botanical science, whose coverage spans over a large number of themes under a broader scope of comparative biology.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This edition of the Conference takes place in Costa Rica, a biological bridge between the Americas, located just 10\u00b0 north of the Equator and a privileged place for the diversity of its flora, with about 3000 monocotyledon species recorded to date (which means 39% of all families and 19% of all known monocot genera in a country little larger than Switzerland).<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During a week full of contributed lectures, seminars, symposia, poster sessions and theoretical and practical courses, the most celebrated authors and experts on a large number of topics relating to the natural history and classification of monocotyledons will gather here to share and discuss their knowledge on the crest of the wave.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The topics of the Conference cover a wide array of taxonomic groups and subjects, as well as life history strategies, biotechnology,
