Mario Blanco is an Associate Professor at the University of Costa Rica (UCR) Biology Department, a researcher at both Lankester Botanical Garden and the Biodiversity and Tropical Ecology research centres of UCR, and current head of the USJ Herbarium. He is broadly interested in the systematics, floristics, anatomy, functional morphology and reproductive biology of plants, especially of Orchidaceae and Araceae.
